About Your Practitioner

Mary Shutan, LAc, LMT

Mary Shutan started her journey in the healing arts learning about chakras and Reiki, and in 2001 began taking classes and connecting with the Usui system of Reiki, receiving attunement and certification in levels one, two and three, eventually becoming a Master Level Teacher in the system in 2006.

Along the way she has also studied and utilized other forms of Reiki, including Five Element, which blends the theories of Traditional Chinese Medicine with the chakra system, and Karuna Reiki, which focuses on compassion in the healing process.

After utilizing Reiki energy, she felt drawn to begin her study of CranioSacral therapy (CST) through the Upledger Institute. With its gentle and nurturing touch, immediate depth of results, respect for the body's innate wisdom, and impact it has had on her own personal healing, she has made it a core element of her work since 2004.

Through her study of the energy systems of the body, she became fascinated with the physical and physiological workings of the human body and became a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) as well as an Asian Body Therapist (ABT) through the state of Illinois, graduating from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in Chicago (PCOM). She then continued her studies in Thai Bodywork, completing 150 hours of study through the Thai Bodywork School of Thai Massage in Evanston, IL

Mary then continued her studies at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, completing their four year Master of Science degree (MSTOM). She is nationally board certified (NCCAOM) in Acupuncture and Chinese herbalism and is a licensed Acupuncturist (LAc) in the state of Illinois. She is also previously a staff member at PCOM, supervising the massage clinic at the school.

In the past few years, Mary has focused on another core element of her work,  Zero Balancing, which works to align your physical and energetic bodies and promote an overall state of balance. Mary is certified in Zero Balancing.

Along with her healing practice, Mary is also an accomplished artist and writer. Her goal is to lead others toward a path of balance and comfort in their bodies and joy in their lives.
